Board Certified, American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgeons
Board Certified, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine
Senior Board Examiner for the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery

This orthopedic surgeon is a great example of an All-American. Not just because he is from Texas, which is a bonus, but because he has honest American values. He believes in hard work, honesty, and loyalty and strongly believes every patient deserves the absolute best care available. Dr. Steve Michelsen will quickly earn your trust and will always give you respect, options, and compassionate care.

Steve Michelsen is board certified in both Sports Medicine and General Orthopedic Surgery. He has been perfecting his skills since his graduation from The University of Des Moines medical school in 1996.

In 1995 he married Lauren, a fellow medical student. After graduation, the two medical school sweethearts moved to California to complete their internships and dive into their specific specialties.

Steve, after completing 3 years in General Surgery, moved on to complete a 5-year residency in Orthopedic Surgery. During their residency training, Steve and Lauren began their family and had two children, Josh and Carli. Time flies! Josh graduated in May of 2022 in Mechanical Engineering and is now working for Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, TX and Carli is completing her studies in Occupational Therapy.

"Dr. Michelsen, and his assistant Mike, are awesome!! I cannot say enough good things about them and the excellent service I have received these past 3 years. In an effort to avoid surgery, Dr. Michelsen gave me several options to help with my pain issues, caused by my knees. He has helped me with numerous issues, and it is wonderful that he has his own x-ray machine and an excellent x-ray technician on staff …. Would give them more stars if it was an option!!!"                                                   Susan N. (Google.com)

He is as committed to his profession as he is to his family. He is always taking more courses and learning new techniques and is on the forefront of cartilage implant surgery. He gives back to his profession regularly. As a senior board examiner, he ensures that new orthopedic surgeons seeking board certification will meet the Orthopedic Academy standards.

"Dr. Michelsen and his staff are excellent. They are all very professional and friendly.”                                                                      Jody G. (Local Guide)

He gives back to his community and has been a team physician for Frisco ISD since his move to Frisco, TX in 2003. Dr. Michelsen is currently the longest standing team physician for FISD. He enjoys being on the sidelines and taking care of the athletes, their coaches, and family members. It is not unusual for Dr. Michelsen to have treated entire families and then their neighbors. Word of his exceptional care travels fast. Dr. Michelsen and his staff will do their best to make you feel at home in their office and will attempt to answer all of your questions.

"Dr. Michaelson was great, I’ve used him for all of my injuries and my father has also used him for a mcl surgery which Dr. Michaelson did a great job on and now my father is able to run again, if you are looking for a good doctor for a sports injury I really suggest you go to Dr. Michaelson.”                                                                                                                                            Connor B. Steve Michelsen oversees his physical therapy center where many of his patients will continue their recovery and rehabilitation, many times without ever needing surgery. He will always give you your options and take the time to answer your questions. He is dedicated to attending to every patient at every visit himself. That deserves repeating. He personally sees every patient at every visit.

Very professional crew from the front desk, through x-ray, Mike, Dr. Michelsen, etc. Took care of me very well from the moment we hopped in … Also, cool cast colors”                                                                                                                                                Norbert T. (Local Guide)

If, and when, he ever retires, he’ll probably be sporting a cowboy hat enjoying the sunset from the saddle of his future horse with his favorite Labrador by his side. Until then, you can say “Howdy” to him in his Frisco office.

"Dr. Michelsen, and his staff give you excellent care. He is very knowledgeable, listens to you, but never rushes you and explains options that he feels are best for you in a way that you can understand. His level of service is at the highest and I have complete confidence in his recommendations for treatments. Mike, his assistant, is also excellent and always makes sure you feel comfortable with the explanation of our treatments and options and concerns. His office staff is top notch, very friendly and efficient. The wait times are so reasonable, usually less than 10 minutes, which is a nice change from most doctors. So grateful to have found Dr. Michelsen and his staff.”                                                                                                                      Anonymous self verified patient (vitals.com)
